Weston, Florida -- A dump truck driver was flown to the hospital Monday after the right-front tire blew out and his vehicle flipped over on northbound Interstate 75, scattering rocks and dirt across the roadway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Three lanes of northbound traffic were blocked about 2 p.m. near the Royal Palm Boulevard exit as workers cleared debris, according to the Highway Patrol. The roadway re-opened to traffic two hours later.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews used hydraulic tools to cut into the cab and pull out the 34-year-old man who was pinned behind the steering wheel, according to Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles. The driver, who troopers identified as Luis Gamez, 34, of Miramar, was flown by helicopter to Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.
Gamez's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Jachles said.
Firefighters contained about 75 gallons of diesel that had spilled in the crash, Jachles said.
