A Sandersville man was killed and his grandson was critically injured this morning after their car collided with a logging truck on Ga. 24 this morning, officials said.
Washington County coroner E.K. May said Ralph Jackson of Sandersville died when his Mercury Grand Marquis collided with a logging truck driven by Wyman Landers of Stapleton around 10:30 a.m. Jackson died during the crash, May said.
His grandson, Chris Jackson, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, where he is in critical condition, May said.
May said the crash was an accident and that no charges were being filed against Landers.
The crash took place on Ga. 24 westbound and Deepstep Road in Sandersville, May said. Investigators believe the Mercury pulled out in front of the logging truck.

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Quitman County Sheriff's deputies are on the scene of an accident involving a dump truck.
It happened this afternoon in the southern part of the county, about a mile before the Clay County line off Highway 39 South.
Authorities say the driver was dumping a load of fertilizer in a field when the truck flipped over, ejecting him and pinning him underneath it.
According to police, he had the entire weight of the truck on top of him for close to two hours before emergency crews could get him out.
The driver was airlifted to the Columbus Regional Medical Center and responders at the scene tell News Leader 9 it appears both of his legs were broken in the accident.
The Quitman County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.
