Truck Accident in Indiana
PORTAGE, Indiana - A semitrailer driver was killed early Thursday at a toll plaza in Portage when he was pinned between his truck and a concrete pole.
The driver, identified as Jaroslaw Lelis, 47, of Valley Stream, N.Y., was eastbound on the Indiana Toll Road at 2:08 a.m. when he stopped at the toll plaza, the Indiana State Police's Toll Road Division said.
He opened his door and was attempting to get a Toll Road ticket when his semi began to roll backward, reports state.
He was crushed when he became wedged between the door of his truck and a concrete pole, reports show.
The death occurred prior to any snow falling and was not related to the winter storm, officials said.
